Birthing my fallow drum with Phil and Lynne was the single most transformational and healing experience of my life so far. 27 hours later and every cell in my body is still buzzing with ecstasy from the whole experience. The sacred drum and rattle ceremonies they hold for the drums birth were beautiful and soothing beyond words. They both have an enormous amount of passion for healing work and it genuinely shows from the heart.

I am a shamanic practitioner and I am thrilled to have a drum made by these amazing people... the quality of the materials, the sacredness with which they attend to their work and the care they place into each aspect of its "birthing", is reflected absolutely in the clear, vital of the drum itself. I wholeheartedly recommend their drums to anyone who wishes one made with such integrity

I've bought hides and hoops to make my own drums from Phil and Lynne. The quality and service are outstanding but as well as this there is a connection of spirit, a meeting in the heart with people truly committed to a beautiful way of being in the world.

While I did not get a finished drum from Phil and Lynne they made me feel like I had. Some of the most open and friendly folks I have never met. I decided at the beginning of the year to craft my own drum. I worked with Phil choosing my hide and my frame. They worked with me gave me advice and in the end I was able to craft an absolutely wonderful drum I will always treasure. Even just their supplies thrum with wonderful good vibes. From across the pond and the other side of the landmass out here in the sister forests of Pacific another drum speaks with a primal voice. Thank you.

I have just received my first ever drum and am so very pleased that I chose Phil and Lynne. I had a 'vision' in my head of how it would be and that is what I received. The drum itself has a beautiful deep resonance (red deer) and the beater (made from Hazel wood) is delightful. Am so very happy - thank you both so much.

I asked Phil to birth my drum a little over a month ago. My partner of 12 years died last year and I wanted to incorporate a small stone, which was taken from the beach where I cast his ashes into the sea in a salt urn, into the beater. As I felt the drum should act as a drum between this world and the next, the addition of the stone seemed appropriate.

When the drum first arrived, I felt that it should acclimatise itself to its new home and surroundings - I live in the Highlands of Scotland. I left it next to a pair of stag antlers in a room on its own for a couple of days before feeling that it was ready to be played. The yew beater has a perfect balance, it strikes the drum without too much effort, as if the drum is playing itself. There are a variety of very deep tones spread across the drum and it didn't take too much to journey quite deeply; the drum guiding how the rhythm should unfold. I was right to wait a number of days before playing it - it needed to relocate itself in time and space to its new surroundings in the Highlands, to tune in and start to speak the language of the surrounding mountains, loch and burns and I could also hear the song of the stags which live in the forest behind the house.

The drum acts as a portal - it is only for playing on certain occasions and with a deep respect. The skin stretched across the head contains many images seen if used as a focus for meditation - wolves run across its surface; so far I have counted nine with a large wolfs head containing the smaller figures. It is part of a larger 'herd', when one drum sings, the other drums hear and respond. Each time the drum is played, the song of the others can be heard responding in harmony. Before I asked for the drum to be birthed, I felt guided to tell Phil a little about what the drum was for - this is an important part of the drum's birthing process. I am glad I was absolutely clear in my intentions as the drum fully lives up to its promise.

The relationship with the drum is in its formative stages. A new child that is learning to speak - I too am learning its language, which is an ancient and almost forgotten speech which I am now slowly remembering. This is not a musical instrument, but rather a teacher, a guide on deep journeying into the landscape and a friend when walking through the portal and into the world of Spirit. A serious commitment to enter into. You might just find a wolf curled up at your feet every time you pick it up to communicate with it...:)

I’d long since been an admirer of Phil’s work and I wanted to go on a drum birthing day but work pressures made this impractical. I decided instead to ask for Phil to birth a 15 inch fallow drum in my stead. I’ve very glad I did.

Not only is it (and the birch beater) utter works of art but they simply burn with energy and spirit.

So much so that, if I’m honest, it was frightening at first. For the first few days I mostly wanted to sit with it. Examining the texture of the skin – playing it gently and little at a time.

This however is a drum that wants to journey. Its voice is powerful and strong, old but young. It wants to journey with me and show me the world anew. May we grow and journey together.

I had wanted to visit Phil and Lynne to make a drum but limitations of time worked against this. As it turned out Phil was in tune with the drum that was waiting to be from the connection he and I had made by telephone, email and photos. He kept in touch with me during the process of its coming into being, was conscientiously prompt in sending it to me, and obviously felt the pangs of parting.

The drum I now have as my companion is the work of a master craftsman, artist and shaman. His authority and good wishes are shown in the clarity of the final words of the Drum Care Sheet.

"It is now down to you to get to know your drum,
and play it often,
with ceremony
and positive intent,
in order to benefit from its Power.

It really is a work of art.. I was playing it last night, the sound from it, the rings and the tones within the vibrations have such depth and richness. Thank you both from the heart:)

Birthing a drum with Phil and Lynne was a very deep experience, transcending time zones and geographic distance. The one I wished for was and is a special gift. It was a learning experience for me as well, as I sat down to understand what are the main features to guide the birthing and imprint into the gift. Phil and Lynne walked with me in compassion and understanding, birthing a drum of sheer beauty, whose voice resonates with clarity. Her voice each morning wakes me up to feeling like the waves of the oceans ... Thank You! Blessings upon your hands and your hearts! May you walk in Beauty!

Having spent a wonderful day this spring equinox birthing my first drum with Lynne and Phil I am even more blessed to have now received its soul partner. During the original birthing we spoke about how the stag skin was reluctant to put itself forward having formed a connection with a reindeer skin. As luck, spiritual or otherwise, would have it, for my Sound Therapy course I require two drums so it was the most obvious decision to have my second drum birthed from this skin. Having connected with Lynne and Phil during the day I knew this choice was in safe hands and simply allowed them to create what they felt was right for me, the skins and the purpose. I am eternally grateful that this guidance has borne fruit and the two skins are now reunited and will form a great therapeutic and healing partnership when appropriate. Thank you and blessings to Lynne and Phil, may your passion and energy continue to have influence on this world and beyond.

The shamanic drum which Phil and Lynne made for me is absolutely wonderful! The whole process was a lovely experience, with fantastic communication throughout - they went through great lengths to take my visions and requests on board, and offered their expertise and guidance to shape the design of the drum. It's clear that both Phil and Lynne are very passionate practitioners, drummers and drum-makers. The drum they made for me is beautifully crafted, and the sound is deeply grounding and strong. Their work is exquisite and unique, and I can only recommend them to anyone who wishes to play a part in creating their own drum! I felt an instant connection with my drum, and am so excited about the long journey we'll share together. I think this is a testimony to Phil and Lynne's passion and understanding of spirit.

Yesterday I became the very proud owner of a Red Deer drum birthed by Phil and Lynne. My wife Mel commissioned the drum and we were both very impressed by the helpfulness shown by Phil and Lynne throughout the entire process.

The quality of the drum is outstanding! I have played other shamanic drums previously but the richness and depth of tone is unlike anything I have heard before. I was instantly hooked when I started playing and am know looking for any opportunity to journey with this whenever I can!

The quality of the materials and craftsmanship is second to none. The deer antler handle finishes the drum beautifully, making it very tactile and comfortable to hold whilst playing.

This is the first drum I have owned and am so happy that we chose Phil and Lynne to birth the drum. We cannot thank them enough for their helpfulness, professionalism and amazing creativity. We will cherish the drum immensely and definitely plan to be back for more beautiful creations in the future.

With heartfelt gratitude and thanks

Thank you Phil and Lynne for your efforts in the creation and birthing of my drum. The colour and sound are spectacular. This is my first ever drum and I feel a bit like a mother having given birth to her first child. Protective and excited all at once. Every day brings something new by way of both sound and depth of connection. The oak handle is comfortable to hold and has a feeling of permanance about it. I look forward to many journeys with this drum.

Thank you Phil for the birthing of my beautiful drum. You took onboard what I required of the drum and transformed the concept and ideas and made them a reality. The drum is a very beautiful tool for the work that lies ahead as well as being an instrument of craftsmanship and integrity in its own right. Many thanks again - I will treasure the drum in the years ahead.

Phil and Lynne went on a truly transformative journey with me during the birthing of my drum, Hjarta although I am half a world away in Madison, Wisconsin. On the day of the birth, all of us connected on a very deep level and the guiding spirits took over, ushering in this beautiful drum spirit from the bones of the Earth, from the core of our Mother. Hjarta means "heart" in Old Norse and has been making the warrior women of her community stronger every single day, healing and calling to those yet to join us. She often wakes me in the early mornings in the dark to pray together. She has already brought such healing to all who hear and touch her. She sings the songs of the Old Ones connecting us all between the sky and the earth. I am so honored to be the guardian and carrier of such an ancient grandmother drum spirit and I receive her into my home as an honored guest. I knew the day she arrived that my life would never be the same. I willingly share her with all who seek to play her for healing and also with those who wish to dance with her around the fire, young and old. Her youngest player is only two years old and they have a very special bond. She has come for us all. Her voice is never the same and she knows exactly the right song to sing every single time. She ranges from the high thrumming of the bees to the deep, resonant, harmonic pull of the cosmos, and then emanating warmth from the very center of the Mother. It is with sincere gratitude to Phil and Lynne, to Freya, and to the drum spirit, Hjarta, that I express my utmost respect for these very special artisans. Hjarta and I, and her family in Wisconsin will continue to drum in light and healing to all the corners of the Mother Earth, to the water, to the grandfather stones, to the forests, to those in need, and to that very special place of her birth in Tenterden, Kent, where we will be forever connected.

Just received my drum and rattle from Phil and Lynne. Both beautifully made with such love and attention to detail. I had been looking for ages for a smaller lighter drum following a shoulder injury and this definitely fits the bill and without losing any depth of sound or power.

My Riendeer Drum arrived yesterday after a journey from UK to Norway.
It is fantastic! I have been wondering a long time on how to find the right drum.
We have local drum makers here in Oslo, but for some reason I was really unsure about if a local drum was the right choice for me. Then I saw and read about all the great drums from Shamanic Drums and Rattles ..., but I was a little bit afraid that ordering a drum from a different country would be less personal, but that turned out to be completely wrong. It is really strange how personal and right this drum feels. We are so connected. Feels like we always have been.
Ordering form Shamanic Drums and Rattles was definitely the 100%
right choice for me, and the drum. It will take quite a long time to explore all the different sounds and areas/moods that are in it. And the beater is perfect! Best choice ever! A new family member.
Thanks so much!

I am absolutely over the moon with the bespoke 15" shamanic drum that Phil and Lynne birthed for me. From start to finish the process was a joy. Phil and Lynne bring so much love, integrity and magic to what they do: my finished drum looks and sounds beautiful and absolutely 'right' for me, going beyond my original vision to something even more special. I'm looking forward to building a wonder-full sound relationship with my new friend and ally.

Thanks and many blessings,

I received my bespoke drum from Phil and Lynne a few months ago and I can honestly say I fell in love with it immediately. The imbued love and exquisite craftsmanship is very apparent. It took some time for my drum and I to come together as I unsure what I wanted. I was on an unexpected vacation in the New Forest, where I felt an intense connection to the horse, when I heard from Phil offering this divine hair-on horse skin drum - Serendipitous? Fate? Beautiful? All of those things! I highly recommend Shamanic Drums and Rattles xx

I had wanted to attend a drum birthing with Phil and Lynne for a very long time, but circumstances always seemed to prevent that from happening; still, it was always in my mind to make sure it happen d at some point. In the course of this past year I met and became friends with two separate folk who knew Phil and Lynne and through chatting with them I decided that, while I couldn't get to a birthing, now was the time to ask them to birth a drum for me. I chose and ordered a drum and soon I heard back from Phil. I can't tell you how honoured and delighted I was when he offered me a specific design and the chance to have my drum adorned with an image of the Uffington White Horse in henna. The White Horse is a place of deep and sacred importance to me, and is where I first met Phil by complete chance when visiting Waylands Smithy and the White Horse early one morning a good few years ago. The birthing of this drum felt to Phil, and to me, like a kind of completion, almost like a recognition of the ever turning wheel of life.

When my drum arrived it was utterly beautiful and imbued with such spirit and filled with what I can only describe as its own soul song. We spent time together, getting to know each other and soon she shared her name with me - a name I am sworn to keep secret, at least for now; over the time she has been with me our relationship continues to grow.

Deepest thanks for the birthing of my drum - it truly is a beautiful living work of sacred art.

Thank you so much for helping to bring my beautiful drum into the world. She has become one of my greatest spirit allies, and sometimes I can't believe that I have come in contact with such an amazing being. We have only been together since the beginning of the year, and already we have been on many journeys together and gone into deep ceremony space. She has seen me through difficulty and triumph, and I trust her and love her so much. We are continuing our journey together, and moving deeper into healing work and spirit journeys. These words cannot do justice to the emotion I have inside for this incredible being. Thank you for bringing us together. It is true love.

Thank you Phil and Lynne for such a beautiful and powerful drum ! It is quite a while since i ordered my drum and even now i am still amazed at the sound and the energy which it holds. I had an idea and a sense of the energy that i was looking for in the creation of a drum, and i couldn't find anyone to create it until i came across Phil and Lynne :) After much deliberation i chose an 18" Holm Oak hoop with a Deer/ Stag skin. And the handle includes a moss agate palmstone ! It looks beautiful, and the sound is amazingly resonant. It has been with me, and been played, in a few ceremonies and it feels part of me with a unique sound. It certainly embodies my original idea and a whole lot more. The level of care, craftmanship, and attention to all the details is amazing ! It is always interesting to hear people's responses when they see the drum. I am really grateful for this beautiful drum, and also the beautifully turned Oak beater :) Thank you.

Thank you, Phil for an an amazing, powerful and beautiful 18'' reindeer drum you have made. I am so thankful for it, I love the drum, the beater, the labradorite stone as a handle - all of it. The whole process from the order right to shipping has been flawless, Phil was generous to ask questions to understand the need and use, and then offer multiple options to find the perfect fit. I would definitely order from him again. :) Thank you for your contributions to a better world.
